So my daughter was diagnosed with anxiety and ADHD this last year. It was a change for us and it took some adjusting and coping for all of us, especially her. She gets overwhelmed easily. We put her in therapy to help develop coping mechanisms and to help her learn how to deal with the anxiety. Breathing was a huge help, even though she hates being told to breathe. Often, I will just go up and give her a huge hug and not let go until I feel the tension release.
As adults, it’s easier to deal with emotions. You can’t really do that with a child. You can’t tell them to just suck it up and move through it. It’s not healthy for them. So along with therapy, I started looking for different things to help her. I love Amazon for the huge variety it offers and I got lucky by finding a necklace she could take to school with her. It doesn’t make a sound but it did help with breathing and allowed her to take control of her anxiety when it started to flare up.
